Established in 2014, Accepting Others Organization (AOO) is a non-governmental, non-profit, and non-religious entity operating in federal Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. Led by women and youth, our focus is on promoting and safeguarding human rights, particularly advancing women’s rights and empowerment nationwide. AOO is dedicated to fostering peaceful coexistence through tolerance and collaboration across diverse societal segments. Our efforts center on peacebuilding, social cohesion, and community engagement, believing in the power of dialogue to create inclusivity. A key aspect of our work involves advocating for crucial frameworks such as the Iraqi National Action Plan II and UN Security Council Resolutions 1325 and 2250, aiming to ensure gender equality and enhance women and youth participation in peacebuilding. Additionally, we provide support to governmental and non-governmental entities in developing policies aligned with international standards, striving to establish a just and equitable society. Role of the Social Worker:
The Social Worker plays a pivotal role in providing psychosocial support, counseling, and advocacy services to individuals and families facing challenges related to their social, emotional, and economic well-being. They work closely with vulnerable populations to address their needs, promote resilience, and facilitate their integration into the community.
Specific Tasks:
- Psychosocial Support and Counseling:
- Conduct psychosocial assessments to identify the needs, strengths, and coping mechanisms of individuals and families.
- Provide individual and group counseling sessions to address emotional distress, trauma, and mental health concerns.
- Case Management and Support Services:
- Develop and implement support plans tailored to the unique needs of clients, including access to healthcare, education, housing, and social welfare benefits.
- Advocate for clients’ rights and interests, providing assistance and guidance in navigating social service systems and accessing resources.
- Community Engagement and Empowerment:
- Facilitate community-based support groups, workshops, and activities to promote social cohesion, empowerment, and peer support.
- Collaborate with community leaders and local organizations to identify and address social issues affecting vulnerable populations.
- Advocacy and Outreach:
- Advocate for policy changes and social reforms to address systemic barriers and inequalities faced by marginalized groups.
- Conduct outreach activities to raise awareness about social issues, rights, and available support services within the community.
- Capacity Building and Training:
- Provide training and capacity-building sessions to community members, volunteers, and partner organizations on psychosocial support techniques, trauma-informed care, and social work principles.
- Foster a culture of empathy, respect, and inclusivity among stakeholders to promote positive social change.
Essential Criteria:
- Education and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field.
- Social Work Experience:
- Proven experience of at least 2 years in social work or counseling roles, preferably in humanitarian or community-based settings.
- Demonstrated understanding of psychosocial support principles, trauma-informed care, and counseling techniques.
- Counseling Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport, empathy, and trust with clients.
- Experience in providing individual and group counseling sessions to diverse populations, including children, adolescents, and adults.
- Case Management Expertise:
- Ability to conduct comprehensive assessments, develop support plans, and facilitate access to relevant services and resources for clients.
- Familiarity with case management principles, confidentiality protocols, and ethical standards in social work practice.
- Community Engagement and Advocacy:
- Commitment to working collaboratively with communities, stakeholders, and partners to address social issues and promote social justice.
- Advocacy skills to raise awareness about social issues, mobilize support for vulnerable populations, and influence policy change.
- Cultural Sensitivity and Adaptability:
- Cultural sensitivity and adaptability to work effectively in diverse cultural and socio-economic contexts.
- Ability to establish rapport and communicate sensitively with individuals and families from different cultural backgrounds.
- Self-Care and Resilience:
- Awareness of the importance of self-care and resilience-building strategies to manage stress and prevent burnout in demanding work environments.
