Established in 2014, Accepting Others Organization (AOO) is a non-governmental, non-profit, and non-religious entity operating in federal Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. Role of the Case Manager:

In the Sharya IDP Camp in Duhok, Iraq, the role of a case manager is crucial in providing essential support and assistance to displaced individuals and families. The case manager serves as a central point of contact and advocate for the residents of the camp, addressing their diverse needs and facilitating access to necessary services and resources.

First and foremost, the case manager conducts thorough assessments of each family or individual’s situation, identifying their specific challenges, vulnerabilities, and aspirations. Based on these assessments, the case manager collaborates with the residents to develop personalized action plans aimed at achieving their goals and improving their overall well-being.

One of the primary responsibilities of the case manager is to coordinate access to essential services such as healthcare, education, psychosocial support, and livelihood opportunities. This involves liaising with relevant governmental agencies, non-governmental organizations, and other service providers to ensure that the residents receive timely and appropriate assistance.

Additionally, the case manager provides ongoing support and guidance to the residents, helping them navigate bureaucratic processes, understand their rights, and access available support mechanisms. They also monitor the progress of the residents, regularly evaluating the effectiveness of the action plans and making adjustments as needed to address emerging needs or challenges.

Specific Tasks:

In the Sharya IDP Camp in Duhok, Iraq, a case manager undertakes various specific tasks aimed at providing comprehensive support to displaced individuals and families:

  1. Assessment: Conduct thorough assessments of each family or individual’s situation, including their needs, vulnerabilities, skills, and aspirations.
  2. Action Plan Development: Collaborate with residents to develop personalized action plans based on assessment findings, outlining specific goals and steps to address identified needs.
  3. Service Coordination: Liaise with relevant service providers, including healthcare facilities, educational institutions, and humanitarian organizations, to coordinate access to essential services such as healthcare, education, psychosocial support, and livelihood opportunities.
  4. Advocacy: Advocate for the rights and interests of the residents within the camp and in interactions with external stakeholders, raising awareness about specific issues affecting the displaced population and lobbying for policy changes.
  5. Support and Guidance: Provide ongoing support and guidance to residents, helping them navigate bureaucratic processes, understand their rights, and access available support mechanisms.

  9. Documentation: Maintain accurate and updated records of resident assessments, action plans, service referrals, and progress reports, ensuring confidentiality and data security.
  10. Community Engagement: Foster a sense of community and social cohesion within the camp by organizing community events, workshops, and activities that promote interaction, cooperation, and mutual support among residents.

By fulfilling these specific tasks, the case manager plays a pivotal role in providing holistic support to displaced individuals and families in the Sharya IDP Camp, contributing to their well-being, empowerment, and eventual integration into the broader community.

 

Essential Criteria:

  • University degree in social work, psychology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience as a social worker, caseworker, or case manager within an NGO.
  • Experience providing case management, basic psychosocial support services, experience providing psychological first aid. Working in a protective shelter environment is a plus.
  • Experience working with survivors of GBV, trafficking, and other populations experiencing a lack of social protection and social inequalities desirable.
  • Strong belief in human rights and gender equality.
  • While all case managers will receive training and supervision, the case manager must be compassionate, confident, diligent, trustworthy, resourceful, interested in learning new skills, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Good interpersonal skills including the ability to gain trust and build relationships with team members and clients.

Strong computer skills.

High standard of spoken and written English, Arabic, and Kurdish.

Ability to work in a stressful setting and adapt quickly to changing environments.
